Update Log

March 15th, 2021

  • I Will be adding screenshots to this guide for better help on the step by step.

This guide involves modifying a XML file of your map. If you are not comfortable with doing this. I suggest playing around with a test map first.

The Media folder is located in your Documents\My Games\SnowRunner\

Chapter 1: How- to do it

Chapter 2: Example Step by step

Chapter 1: How-To do it

  1. MAKE A BACKUP OF YOUR MAP FILES INCASE YOU MESS SOMETHING UP
  2. Add all mod files to Media folder
  3. In the map editor, add a minimum of 2 vehicles that aren't used on your map already. That way it's easy to find them in mapname.xml to replace with your mod vehicle. One vehicle is for packing in to the map only, and the other(s) will show in the map in game.
  4. Save and close the editor
  5. Open mapname.xml and find the vehicles you added..
  6. Replace the first vehicle "chevrolet_ck1500" or whatever you used with "TruckTrailerName\Media" (TruckTrailerName is the exact same name as the xml file of the mod in the classes folder e.g TruckTrailerName.xml WITHOUT THE FILE EXTENSION)
  7. Replace the rest of the vehicles you wish to replace with a mod with "TruckTrailerName\175454.pak"mount krumpet mod for snowrunner 1
  8. Save the XML and reopen the editor. The errors about the missing vehicle is ok. That's just the editor telling you it cant find the vehicle locally.
  9. Pack the map and upload to mod.io as hidden for testing purposes.
  10. Load your map in the game as a mod from mod.io and you should see your mod vehicle/trailer.
  11. This will not work for local testing. For local testing see the bottom of this guide as you have to change some names in the XML.

Chapter 2: Step-by-Step

  1. MAKE A BACKUP OF YOUR MAP FILES INCASE YOU MESS SOMETHING UP
  2. Add all the mod files to your media folder ** very important **
  3. In the editor with your map loaded, add a truck or trailer to the map as if you wanted a vanilla one (in the middle of no where as this is needed just for packing and will not show on your map in the game) also make note the truck name. Use something that you're not using on the map already to find it easy in xml
  4. Add another truck to the map. Make a note of the vehicle you used again, as this one will be the one that shows on the map (Add as many as you need)
  5. Save the map and close the editor.
  6. Navigate to Media/prebuild/mapname.xml and open it in your fav editor
  7. Search for truck name in step 3 (for this guide I used the Chev CK1500)
  8. In the mapname.xml you should now find a line that looks like this (Type="chevrolet_ck1500")
  9. Replace "chevrolet_ck1500" with "TruckTrailerName\Media" (TruckTrailerName is the exact same name as the xml file of the mod in the classes folder e.g TruckTrailerName.xml WITHOUT THE FILE EXTENSION)
  10. Search for truck name in step 4 (for this guide I used the H2 Hummer) Replace the Vehicle (H2 Hummer) you added for every one you want to replace with a mod truck/trailer.
  11. Replace "hummer_h2" with "TruckTrailerName\175454.pak" (TruckTrailerName is the exact same name as the xml file of the mod in the classes folder e.g TruckTrailerName.xml WITHOUT THE FILE EXTENSION) 175454.pak is a reference to the mod.io mod id of your mapmount krumpet mod for snowrunner 1
  12. Save the XML
  13. Open the editor. For every vehicle you added and changed to "TruckTrailerName\175454.pak", You WILL GET AN ERROR when loading your map. This is OK as it cannot find the linked mod from the mod.io download.
  14. Pack the map for upload to mod.io
  15. Upload the map to mod.io as hidden for testing purposes.
  16. Start SnowRunner Game, let your map download from mod.io, Start a new game on your map. You should now see the mod truck/trailer on your map if you did it correctly.

So a little information on what does what.

  • "TruckTrailerName\Media" tells the editor to pack those mod files into the map. it wont show on the map once downloaded from mod.io
  • "TruckTrailerName\175454.pak" vehicles will not show up if you test locally.
  • To test locally replace "TruckTrailerName\175454.pak" with "TruckTrailerName\mod_level_mapname.pak" (Just remember to put it back to the mod.io MOD ID when you're finished testing locally.)

The End.

Good guide! I think you can attach a couple of screenshots for a better understanding.

great info. i've been looking for this. i map A Lot, and have not been able to get mod trucks into 'my map'.
this is great but pretty confusing, like VZT said some screen shots of the file trees, would help (and for me it will help tremendously).
Thank you for posting, and sharing your knowledge.

If you map a lot.. i have a bunch of tricks.. like custom streetlight/whatever you want overlays along the side of the road :) i have no guide for that right now.. but like i said.. my discord server offers a lot of help with tweaking the editor to do different things. (within reason)
